Best Of 2014: Art Lists

With 2014 rapidly wrapping up, it’s time to weed through the “best of” lists. Whether your personal art walks traverse ancient textiles, activist art, large-scale installations, or boundary-pushing contemporary works, there’s something on these lists for you! Find out whether you saw the “right” art this year, or need to reassess for next season with our list of lists: the best art of 2014 from our most trusted internet sources.

Huffington Post provides a visual overview of their picks for the 15 best art exhibitions of the year, starting with one of the most photographed, Kara Walker’s, “A Subtlety.”

The New York Times offers two different year-end roundups, Roberta Smith’s Top Art Shows of 2014, and Holland Cotter’s slightly anti-establishment Notable Art Events of 2014. Check them both out for sure.

Vulture doesn’t mince words with its list of the 19 best art shows of the year. By far the best commentary of the group.

Art Review formulates its annual Power 100 list, “a ranked list of the contemporary art world’s most powerful figures.” Whether they’re the “best” or not, is another question altogether.

Artlyst responds with a kind of anti-Power 100 list purported to include creatives based on merit-only, rather than financial clout.

Blouin ArtInfo keeps the end-of-year Art Basel Miami Beach madness going with its “definitive” list of the best booths from the fair.

So there you have the list of lists for 2014 art! If every one of these is old news to you, well – congratulations, you saw all the art this year. Feel free to coast until the new year.
